Eurobasket Select managed to hold on to it's sixth consecutive win on this German Tour against an experience and well coached TV 1864 Salzkotten team. Jeremiah Dunnings (183-PG, college: William Carey) scored 22 points (including the first 12 of the second half) and dished five assists to lead Eurobasket. Zack Leeper (193-G) scored 12 of his 16 points in the 1st quarter while Josiah Coleman (196-F-94, college: N.Dakota) notched his first double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Coach Stefan Schettke had his team ready for this matchup against a full undefeated American squad and they continued to respond time after time. Unlike the previous 3 matchups where Eurobasket held sustainable leads throughout the 1st half, TV 1864 Salzkotten led at the end of the 1st quarter 25-18. Forward Alan Boger (194-F/G-96) was red hot the entire game as he finished with 28 points and six 3 point field goals.
'I believe tonight was our toughest test of the tour (including Pro B win v Bochum), they were experienced, well coached, and read for the challenge against our guys. The difference between a win and a loss was simply our play on the offensive end. We had 30 assists tonight. Far more than what anybody would expect from an American tour team,' Eurobasket Select Head Coach Allen Mkrtychyan said. 'Our three point guards Jack (Montague), Jeremiah (Dunnings), and Derrick (Seldon) each had 5 assists. That sets the tone for everyone else.'
After trailing by 2 at halftime the game would feature 8 lead changes throughout the 3rd and 4th quarters. Dunnings started the second half by going from the 3 point line in the 1st 3 minutes to really boost Eurobasket. Coleman who played limited minutes in the first half played a major role during the second half. 'Josiah continued to get the job done on the offensive end, but tonight he crashed the boards hard and was assigned to guard Boger after he hit all those 3s. Josiah really made it difficult for him in that 4th quarter,' Tour Manager Dustin Simcox said.
It was a full team win from top to bottom. Seldon had a complete game stuffing the box score with 5 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals. Ethan Murray continued his hot shooting on the tour finishing with 14 points and 4 assists. Darvin Ham (196-F-92, college: Northwood), Bruce Marshall (208-C-94), and Josh Biber (196-G/F-91, college: Brown) contributed 9, 7, and 6 points respectively. Big man William Wise (206-F) who started his second game of the tour found his stroke from 15 feet just in time for the Pro B part of the tour schedule. Eurobasket will play Pro B Wolfenbuettel on Thursday.
Notes: Ajani Santos (201-F/C-94) played limited minutes due to foul trouble...Coleman is 2nd Eurobasket player to get a double double (Mickens twice)...Maurice Cole (182-PG-90, college: Dixie St.), Don Quarles (193-F/G-92, college: Paine), and Dayton Mickens (203-F-91, college: Ark.-Monticello) sat due to rest...Marshall made his 1st 3 pointer of the tour....Murray is shooting 58% from 3 point range.
