Top former ESL participants playing pro basketball based on last week's performance - Jun 19, 2013

We bring you last week's top performances from former ESL participants who are playing pro basketball and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.


Emmanuel Little
Emmanuel Little
   #1. Emmanuel Little (196-F-85, college: N.Dakota, currently plays in Mexico) led Rayos de Hermosillo to a victory over the sixth-ranked Mineros de Cananea (14-18) 88-83 in the Mexican CIBACOPA in Tuesday night's game. He was MVP of the game. Little recorded 25 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists in 34 minutes. Rayos de Hermosillo (26-6) is placed first in the CIBACOPA. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. Little has relatively good stats this year: 13.0ppg, 5.5rpg and 3.1apg in the 39 games he played so far. He attended previously one of camps at Eurobasket Summer League on his way to pro basketball. In 2008 Little went to the ESL camp in Chicago playing for London.

Akeem Wright
Akeem Wright
   #2. Akeem Wright (200-F/G-84, college: Kansas St., currently plays in New Zealand) led Otago OceanaGold Nuggets to a victory over the fifth-ranked Hub Jets (7-6) 110-102 in the New Zealand NBL last Friday. He was the best player in that game. Wright scored 33 points (!!!), had 8 rebounds and dished 3 assists. Otago OceanaGold Nuggets (11-2) are placed first in the NBL. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Wright belongs to league's top scorers and is ranked #2. He has individually a very good season with high stats. Wright averages: 22.3ppg, 7.7rpg, 3.1apg and 1.8spg. Worth to mention he played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. Four years ago Wright took part in the ESL camp in New York playing for Team Kiev.

Sammy Monroe
Sammy Monroe
   #3. Sammy Monroe (198-F-85, college: Newberry, currently plays in Mexico), who plays in the Mexican CIBACOPA could not help Mineros de Cananea (14-18) in their last game. Despite his very good performance Mineros de Cananea lost 82-89 on the road to the leading Rayos de Hermosillo. Monroe recorded 16 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and made 2 blocks in 38 minutes. Monroe is ranked second on the list of the top scorers in the league and also on the list of most steals (fifth place). He has individually a very good year with high stats. Monroe averages: 24.3ppg, 6.3rpg, 3.1apg and 1.6spg in the 35 games he played so far. He is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Three years ago Monroe played at the ESL camp in Las Vegas playing for Team Geneva.

Garrius Holloman
Garrius Holloman
   #4. Garrius Holloman (198-F-89, college: Beth.-Cookman, currently plays in New Zealand), who plays in the New Zealand NBL could not help one of league's weakest teams Advice First Waikato Pistons (1-11) in their last game on Friday. Despite his very good performance the bottom-ranked Advice First Waikato Pistons were defeated 87-77 on the road by the one of league's weakest teams James Blond Super City Rangers (#8). Holloman was the second best scorer with 21 points. He also added 3 steals. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Holloman has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 19.5ppg, 5.6rpg, 2.6apg and 2.1spg. He is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. In 2012 Holloman attended the ESL camp in Las Vegas playing for Team Kiev.

Justin Griffin
Justin Griffin
   #5. Justin Griffin (194-G/F-83, college: Hawaii-Hilo, currently plays in Mexico), who plays in the Mexican CIBACOPA could not help Fuerza Guinda Nogales (15-17) to beat Tijuana Zonkeys (15-17). He did not have that impressive stats last Tuesday. Griffin scored only 2 points in 26 minutes. Fuerza Guinda Nogales lost 61-75 on the road to the lower-ranked (#4) Tijuana Zonkeys. It was Fuerza Guinda Nogales' third consecutive loss in a row. This year Griffin has relatively solid stats: 13.3ppg, 2.9rpg and 2.2apg in the 12 games he played so far. He is a naturalized American. Griffin is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas.

Nicholas Covington
Nicholas Covington
   #6. Nicholas Covington (188-G-85, college: Oklahoma City, currently plays in Colombia), who plays in the Colombian DPB could not help Bucaros (12-8) in their last game on Tuesday. Despite his good performance the second-placed Bucaros was badly defeated 87-68 at home by the leading Bambuqueros in the Places 1-6 group. Covington recorded 14 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Covington has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 19.7ppg, 3.3rpg, 3.4apg and 1.9spg. Covington attended five years ago the Eurobasket Summer League camp in Salt Lake City.

2017 German Tour Recap: The 2017 German Tour wrapped up last week where the team finished a respectable 7-5 on the trip. The team formed of talented players from all over the United States that attended at least one of the Eurobasket Summer League camps. The Eurobasket Select Team split their double header on Saturday with a win of Vfl Stade and a defeat to Cuxhaven. The first game of the day that featured 7 members of the Eurobasket team battled all the way to the finish but came up just short.
