The need to take the Eurobasket Summer League (ESL) to a higher level has caused a change in scenery at the director position. Eurobasket's Director Marek Wojtera has appointed J.D. Barnes Director of the new ESL. Barnes brings a wealth of international experience along with a proven track record for developing the international and minor league game. Barnes' first order was business will be adding more international scouts and General Managers to the event. Barnes has been one of the leaders in international exposure camps over the past three years. In 2009 he started one of the more popular minor leagues in the country (UBA, WUBA). In that time frame, Barnes has helped over 162 players reach the professional level along with over 37 to the NCAA. Barnes, started Trinity United LLC at age 24 during his playing career overseas. At the age of 26, he has become the youngest director ESL has ever had. Wojtera stated, "We feel Barnes is going to be a great asset to Eurobasket and to the growth of ESL. The success that he has accomplished at such a young age shows the drive and commitment he has in his work. He wants to be the best at what he does and that is a characteristic we want to see in our ESL Director."

Barnes played over eight years on the professional level (Japan, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Dominican Republic, Uruguay, Cyprus) including several mini camps on the NBA level. In college he was named 1st Team All-America on the NAIA level and NCCAA National Player of the Year in 2006. He has been featured in SLAM Magazine twice putting the UBA on the map. Barnes' career was at a high after being invited to the Minnesota Timberwolves vet camp. "Barnes shocked us all with his great play in Taiwan and we had to bring him in to see what he could do on this level", stated head coach Sam Mitchell (agency: Career Sports Mngm). Barnes is now the director of the Copa Mitchell Cup in the Dominican Republic along with being named a board member of the William Jones Cup in Taiwan. "Barnes is a very smart young man and will be a great CEO after he retires from the game", said Mitchell.

'The Eurobasket Summer League was once the most prestigious exposure camp in the world, attracting high profile college stars and blossoming professional veterans' Barnes said 'that is a vision that has been lost in the last few years and a vision that I am dedicating in bringing back.' Barnes plans on doing that by implementing a new structure that will enhance each player's ability to showcase their skills while allowing coaches, GM's, and Owner's a better style of basketball to evaluate. 'I choose to help the women, said Barnes. "There are no outlets for these young ladies and I want to give them the ability to showcase their skill to the highest level", said Barnes. The most impressive aspect of the new ESL for Women will be the addition of the international Cups. Barnes has a great relationship with several teams including his partnership with the local Atlanta Dream. "We have done great business together for the last 4 years and I want to continue that", said Barnes. The Atlanta Dream are first class.

The new ESL Camps will take effect in 2016 beginning with the April 9-10 ESL Camp in Atlanta, Georgia. The April event will be a Pre Draft showcase for all levels in the country. A great opportunity for players to get an early jump on signing possibilities directly following the Final 4. The top players from the ESL will have a invite to play on Team USA JC in the William Jones Cup (Taiwan). "In no way are we competing with the WNBA", said Barnes. This is just another opportunity for these ladies to sign in Europe. ESL Atlanta Part 2 will kick off June 4-5 in the same location. This event will be for international clubs to come out and get a jump on recruiting for the 2016-17 season. There will be a guaranteed ten scouts, General Managers and head coaches from Spain, Turkey, France, China, Taiwan, Puerto Rico, Peru, Iceland and Sweden. As Barnes concluded, 'Eurobasket is the most popular and most used tool in international basketball. For them to not be represented at such prestigious events with the most prominent scouts would be unreasonable. It is time to bring the Eurobasket Summer League back to the Premier event in international basketball.'
