Coaches Announced for Las Vegas Eurobasket Summer League - February 24, 2018

The Eurobasket Summer League (ESL) will return to Valley High School in Las Vegas, NV for two separate events during the NBA Summer League. ESL is coming off of two stellar years of opportunities for players which saw attendees amass a combine 71 overseas contracts, 7 NBA G-League contracts, and even 1 NBA contract. The 2018 ESL would kick off with its first session on Friday July 6th and run through the weekend as the championship game will take place at 5:30 pm on July 8th. Teams will be broken into 4 different pool play groups that guarantee each team to play three games. The winner of each group will then move on to the Final 4 to compete for the championship. The ESL second session will start on Tuesday July 10th and will conclude with the championship game will commence at 5:30 pm on Thursday July 12th.

Meet the Coaches (more coaches will be announced at a later date)

Allen Mkrtychyan returns to the ESL Las Vegas for the 5th consecutive year. Mkrtychyan hailing from Moscow, Russia played at West Hills CC and Hawaii Pacific University before starting his coaching career. He has coached at the high school, collegiate, pro, and national team level in his career. He won a state championship as a coach at Columbia Christian HS in Portland, Oregon. He was an assistant coach for the Armenian National Team and also has been the Head Coach for the ESL Select German Tour team in each of the past two years. He has already agreed to return to ESL Select for the German Tour in 2018. He has a record of 16-6 in the two years as the ESL Head Coach.

Matthew Otten returns to ESL Las Vegas for the 3rd consecutive year. Otten grew up in the United States and played for San Francisco State (NCAA D2) before going and playing 8 years overseas in Cyprus, Switzerland, Netherlands, and England. His best season was in the Top Division of the Netherlands playing for the Rotterdam Challengers. During that year he averaged 13.4 ppg while shooting 50% from the field and 36% from 3. He has now been the Head Coach in Nijmegen in the Netherlands for the place 2 years. The ESL Select Tour team will compete against Nijmegen in 2018.

Vincent Van Sliedregt returns to ESL Las Vegas for the second consecutive year. Van Sliedregt of Dutch nationality played professionally for the Rotterdam Challengers along side Coach Otten. Van Sliedregt is most known as a "The Flying Dutch" for his superior dunking ability that has taken him to dunking competitions all across the globe. He finished 3rd in the European Championships. He has since taken the assistant coach position in Rotterdam for his former team in the Top Netherlands division. Van Sliedregt signed Joey Puddister to his team after coaching him during the 2017 Las Vegas ESL.

Englishman Graham Wilson also returns to ESL Las Vegas for the second consecutive year. Wilson will also coach at the ESL New York event in 2017 and will be at the 2018 Philadelphia ESL. He brings 15 years of international coaching experience to ESL as he has coached at some of the highest levels in Europe, including the EuroLeague, British BBL, and the ULEB Cup. He also served as a front office member for the Essex Pirates. He has a career 55% winning percentage in his coaching career. Wilson will also host the 2018 3up Clinic at Valley HS following the ESL events.

Giorgos Bitzanis will make his first appearance as a Head Coach in the Las Vegas ESL. Bitzanis hailing from Athens, Greece has coached throughout Greece, Ukraine, and currently the Head Coach for Michelin Etha Engomis Nicosia in the Cyprus A Division. His teams won Greek Championships in both 2010 and 2011. In 2014, he began as an assistant coach for the Qatari National team competing throughout Asia including tournaments in Iran, South Korea, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and China. We are looking forward to his contributions in 2018.

Daniel Sokolovsky will return for his second consecutive Las Vegas ESL. Sokolovsky was a collegiate player for NCAA D3 Hunter College under Coach Graham Wilson for two years. Following his playing career he gave one year to Columbia University (NCAA I) in New York City before taking the assistant coaching position of Parma Basket Perm in the Russian top professional basketball league. Sokolovsky was a very spirited coach in the 2017 ESL and we would expect nothing less from him in 2018.

Mark Arce will join the Las Vegas ESL staff for his first year. Arce is among the All Time Winning-est Coaches in CCCAA History at West Hills Coalinga College. He has 367 career victories and 260 wins during his 15 year tenure at West Hills. He has been awarded Coach of the Year in 2007 and 2015, been voted into the Hall of Fame, and one of two coaches to reach the Elite 8 in two separate regions. Arce was also an assistant coach with Utah State helping lead them to a 56-12 record including a berth into the NCAA Tournament. Arce is projected to also coach during the ESL Select German Tour in August 2018.

John Bynum will join the Las Vegas ESL staff for the first year in 2018. Bynum is coming off of a stellar professional career that spanned 14 seasons in England, Norway, Italy, Cyprus, Germany, and a short stint with the Denver Nuggets. Between 2001-2006, Bynum averaged 23 ppg, 8 rpg, and 7 ast throughout his stints in Norway and Germany. He was 2002 NBL Slam Dunk Winner and the 2004/2005 All German Bundesliga 1st Team. From 2005-2007 he played in the German Bundesliga Top league with Eisbaeren Bremerhaven where he averaged 7 ppg, 3 rpg, and 2 apg. His advanced knowledge of what it takes to play and maintain an overseas career will be a great addition to the ESL Las Vegas Team.
