2023 Eurobasket Men's Portugal Tour Finishes with 6-2 Record - September 19, 2023

The Eurobasket team finished its 2023 Men's Portugal Tour on Sunday with a 6-2 record. The final 2 games that had not been announced were a 103-86 loss to Vasco da Gama and a 61-57 victory over Jose Regio. Agyei Edwards (180-PG-1997, college: Frostburg St.) led all scorers with 22 in the game vs Vasco, while Deveraux Davis Jr. (198-F, college: Tuskegee) had 18, Jaysen Williams with 14, and Malik Spellman (180-PG-2001) rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10. Vasco had a hot shooting night and jumped out to a 20 point 1st half lead that proved to be too much to overcome. Eurobasket went on a 10-0 run to start the 3rd to cut it to 9 but Vasco survived the storm and pushed the lead back out for the easy victory.
The game with Jose Regio saw a very shorthanded and battered Eurobasket team. The two leading scorers of the trip (Edwards and Davis) both missed the game. Edwards received a contract offer in Macedonia that he will be taking while Davis was held out to rest a strained calf. That left 5 "healthy" players to compete in the final contest. Deshiloh Stanley (183-G) took control of the scoring load with 23 points to go with 9 rebounds. James McDonald scored 11 points with 5 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 blocks in his best performance of the week. Alikhan Tulebayev (180-PG-1994, college: Lorain County) put together his normal glue like performance scoring 6 points, with 9 rebounds, 4 steals, and blocks.
Marquez Holmes (206-C) and Malik Spellman gutted out one last performance as both were still battling lingering minor injuries throughout the week. Holmes had quad tightness that hindered his last few games but still managed to score 5 points with 8 rebounds and 3 blocks in the win. Spellman took a hard fall after a drive to the basket in Game 2 that left him with a mild wrist sprain on his shooting hand. It was very difficult at all, let alone his normal capability. This team was full a hard workers and great character individuals.
